Jai Cafarella is a singer, songwriter and guitarist currently based in Adelaide’s southern suburbs. With 25 years of experience, Jai has performed at various local and interstate venues and events, also appearing on local radio stations. While he is determined to make his mark as an original solo artist, he is also developing a strong scene presence with his growing repertoire of covers. He is often complimented for his impressive tenor vocal range, emotive performances and his moving and catchy original compositions.
Most recently, Jai has been busy establishing himself locally by playing and networking at various open mics and acoustic nights. His primary objective is to build a solid foundation as a working musician, playing frequent gigs to fund the recording and release of his original works. He is also currently involved with a covers band called Jukebox Who? playing guitar and backing vocals, and also a male/female duo playing a mix of covers and originals.
In 2015, he co-founded TriggerHertz; a 4-piece original rock band. They steadily built momentum playing a number of local gigs and began recording an EP near the end of 2016, but unfortunately, the band dissolved mid-2017. Although his current main focus is solo acoustic work, he ultimately hopes to find like-minded musicians to form a stable rock band and perform his originals as they are intended to be.
Jai was involved with SCALA on and off between 2003-2012, during which time, two of his compositions (Breathe and State Of Mind) won awards in their annual FOOM competitions, with two other songs (The Letter and Conman) receiving honourable mentions. In 2001, while under the pseudonym Shade, ‘Johnny (Part I)’ was selected by Carclew to be recorded at Fat Trax Studio for their inaugural Off the Couch EP. This recording also made it to the online listening stage of that years Triple J Unearthed. The following year, a live performance of ‘Mavis’ won a local singing contest, earning a day of recording at Industry Studios with Rob Transini that resulted in a 7-track acoustic EP.
In 2013 and 2014, Jai performed in four amateur theatre shows with Northern Light Theatre Company; Little Shop of Horrors, Eurobeat: Almost Eurovision, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and White Christmas. Jai has completed Cert. III in Music at TAFE, with intentions of completing Cert. IV and Diploma in the near-future in order to begin teaching guitar.
