The Runaway Boys are an Adelaide based high energy Rock & Roll Band playing
songs from the 50’s & 60’s by such artists as Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, Cliff
Richard etc with a little Rockabilly thrown in for good measure from such artists as
Carl Perkins, Darrel Higham and the like.
Founding member & lead guitarist Phil Bennett is originally from England where he
formed a touring support band in the sixties, playing support gigs to artists like The
Kinks, The Searchers, Cream, etc. Phil emigrated to OZ in 1981where he formed the
band ‘Night Shift’ in the 80’s/90’s, and later The Runaway Boys in 2011.
Lead vocalist Derek Armitage migrated to Oz in 1963 and formed one of Adelaide’s
top rock bands ‘Jeremiah’ in the early 70’s which had great success including touring
with country rock star Allison Durbin. Derek was also a member of well known
Adelaide ’60/40 Cabaret’ band ‘Combination’ in the 80’s.
On drums is Rob Green, another English lad, with over 50 years experience he has
played all genres of music including Rock, Blues, Pop, Soul & Musical Theatre.
Rob’s band in the UK played as support act for several well known artists including
Peter Green’s ‘Fleetwood Mac’.
On bass guitar is Peter Caputo who has been playing bass since it was invented.
Adelaide fans will remember Peter from Luck Seven Swing and also The Memphis
Suns playing all genres of music including Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rockabilly & Swing.
